12+ months before

  • Envision your wedding and draw up a budget.
  • Assemble your “planning team.” Consider hiring a wedding consultant.
  • Pick a wedding date and time. Select several options, then check with your venues, officiant and important guests before finalizing.
  • Start planning the guest list.
  • Look for and book ceremony sites and reception sites.
  • Ask friends and relatives to be in the wedding party.

  • Choose color theme and start thinking of overall design
  • Hire vendors who book up quickly, including your photographer, band, DJ, and videographer
  • Start shopping for your wedding dress
  • Book hotel-room blocks for guests
  • Create your wedding website

  • Buy your wedding dress

  • Explore wedding day hair and makeup styles.
  • Meet with officiant to discuss plans for ceremony.
  • Choose cake style and schedule tastings.

  • Book transportation to and from venues.
  • Choose flowers for: wedding party, attendants, venues, cake, etc.
  • Schedule dress fittings.
  • Book honeymoon flights and hotels.

  • Prepare {play/do not play} lists for DJ/band.
  • Finalize wedding guest list.

6-8 weeks before

  • You’re getting close…. Mail out those invitations! Have a game plan for recording the RSVPs and meal choices.
  • Touch base with your vendors to confirm date, deposits and details.
  • Start researching marriage license requirements and name-change paperwork.
  • Begin your dress fittings. Be sure to buy the appropriate undergarments beforehand.
  • So you think you can’t dance? Consider taking a dance lesson with your fiancé—a good way to break in your bridal shoes!
  • Give the wedding party a nudge—make sure they’ve ordered all necessary attire.

Final Week

  • Confirm numbers with venue and caterers
  • Brief your bridesmaids, ushers and best man on your plans and give them emergency numbers
  • Confirm all your timings with suppliers!
  • Pay final balances
  • Collect groomswear if you’ve hired it (don’t forget to arrange someone to return hired items too!)
  • Collect your wedding dress from your boutique
  • Have a manicure and pedicure
